The original Cat in the Hat special is back!Ac

Actually, it’s been back for awhile but I just got it today!  I saw it for $5 and no way was I passing on that!

It’s so great to see it again.  The wonderful songs!  For some reason, when I think of this show, I remember this one first.

I repeat: cat, hat;

in French, chat, chapeau

in Spanish, el gato in a sombrero

Even the instrumental at the beginning and end set off something in my memory. My inner child is very happy.

The voices sound so familiar, like I’ve heard them before. I know the girl was one of the girls who played Lucy in Peanuts specials. But I looked up the cast on imdb to see why the others sound familiar too or was it just childhood memory recalling this show from years of seeing it?

No wonder they seem familiar!

Thurl Ravenscroft is Thing 1! The man who gave us “You’re a fowl one, Mr. Grinch!” and “They’re grrreat”, and of course, for Disney park fans, the Haunted Mansion and Splash Mountain!

Allan Sherman is the Cat! The man who gave us all the comedy songs — like Hello Muddah, Hello Faddah — and can still be heard in a few Simpson episodes.

And the fish is Daws Butler, whose name I don’t know — sorry! — but whose voice I know from so many cartoons! Bugs Bunny, Scooby doo, Hanna Barbera, Yogi Bear…

And the girl wasn’t just Lucy, but in original Star Trek, Disneyland, the girl in Charlotte’s web, and so much more. Nice career!

But back to the Cat in the Hat, and the 3 handled, moss covered, family gredunza… and of course,

Thing Two and Thing One
they find anything anything
anything under the sun!

And if I listen to “Beautiful Kittenfish” tonight as I go to sleep, I bet I have beautiful dreams.
